Privacy policy
Last updated: October 19, 2026
YardHop ("we", "us") is an app for finding and posting garage sales. This policy explains what information YardHop collects, why, who helps us run the service, and the choices you have. We don't sell your personal information.
Information we collect
| Information | Why we use it | Who can see it |
|---|---|---|
| Email address and password (password stored only in scrambled form) | To create and sign in to your account, and to send sign-in codes and password-reset codes | Only you and us |
| First name (optional) | To personalize your account screen | Only you and us |
| Your location (when you allow it) | To show sales near you and to send alerts about new sales within your alert radius. The app saves your last known location to your profile for alerts. | Only you and us |
| Garage sales you post: title, description, address and map location, dates, times, categories, prices and photos | To show your sale to other people | Everyone using YardHop: posts are public |
| Notification address (a push token for your device) | To send new-sale alerts and test alerts to your phone | Only us and our notification providers |
| Settings: plan (Free/Pro), alert on/off, alert radius | To run the app the way you chose | Only you and us |
| Purchases: whether you have Pro, until when, and which sales you highlighted (no card details) | To give you what you paid for and let you restore it on a new phone | Only you and us (and the payment providers below) |
| Advertising data (Free plan only): your device's advertising ID, approximate location from your internet address, and how you interact with ads | To show ads, which keep the Free plan free. Collected by Google AdMob | Google AdMob and its ad partners |
| Reports you make about a sale, with any note you add | To keep YardHop safe; sales reported by several people are hidden | Only us (the seller sees that the sale was hidden, not who reported it) |
We don't collect your contacts, messages, call history, or files other than the photos you choose to add to a sale. YardHop uses your camera only while you're taking a photo for a sale, and only photos you add to a sale are uploaded. Pro members don't see ads. You can reset or delete your advertising ID, or opt out of personalized ads, in your phone's settings (Settings → Google → Ads on Android).
Services that help us run YardHop
These companies process data only to provide their service to us:
- Supabase: hosts our database, accounts and photos.
- Expo and Google Firebase Cloud Messaging: deliver push notifications to your phone.
- Brevo: sends account emails (confirmation and password-reset codes).
- OpenStreetMap: provides the map pictures. Your device requests map images directly from OpenStreetMap, which sees your device's internet address, like any website.
- Google Play: distributes the app and, if you buy something, processes the payment. We never see your card details.
- RevenueCat: keeps track of your Pro subscription and highlight purchases for us, using your YardHop account number.
- Google AdMob: shows ads to people on the Free plan. See how Google uses information from apps that use its services.
If we add new services, we'll update this policy first and name them.
How long we keep information
- Your account information is kept until you delete your account.
- Garage sales stay in the app until you delete them or delete your account. Sales that have ended are no longer shown on the map.
- When you delete your account, your profile, sales, photos and reports are deleted right away. Routine backups are overwritten within about 30 days.
Your choices
- Location: you can turn location off in your phone's settings. The app still works; you'll just need to move the map yourself.
- Notifications: turn alerts off in the app (Account → New-sale alerts) or in your phone's settings.
- Your posts: delete any sale from Account → Your sales.
- Your subscription: cancel anytime in the Google Play app (Profile → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions). Deleting your YardHop account doesn't cancel it, so cancel it there first.
- Your account: delete it in the app (Account → Delete account) or follow these steps.
- Access or correct your data: email us and we'll respond within 30 days.
Security
All data is sent over encrypted connections (HTTPS). Passwords are stored only in scrambled (hashed) form. Access to the database is restricted so that people can only change their own account and their own sales.
Children
YardHop is meant for adults aged 18 and over. We don't knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has created an account, email us and we'll delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. For important changes, we'll also tell you in the app or by email before they take effect.
